Cosplay Contest Categories and Divisions


Contest and Judging Categories

Entry Types:

  • Walk-Ons
    • Maximum of 30 seconds
    • Categories included are Craftsmanship and Exhibitions
    • For individuals who wish to display their cosplay and model for pictures on stage
  • Skits/Performances
    • Maximum skit length of 2 minutes
    • This category is for individuals or groups who wish to perform a skit on stage.
    • Contestants may enter both craftsmanship and performance categories. If you would like to participate in craftsmanship, select “craftsmanship as your categories” and Entry Type as “performance”.

Categories/Divisions:

  • Craftsmanship (Costume Construction and Quality)
    • Contestants must have made at least 70% or more of their cosplay themselves to be considered for Craftsmanship Category.
    • The Cosplay Coordinators reserve the right to move a cosplayer up to a more competitive level. A cosplayer may always request to compete in a higher division at their own discretion when signing up. They may not choose to compete in a lower division if inquiry has already been placed.
    • Novice – Contestants have one 0-1 major awards
      • Novice contestants are either new to the competition scene or still learning the craft. If you are worried about your division please reach out to our Cosplay Coordinators for clarification.
    • Journeyman – Contestants have one 2-3 major awards
      • This division is for cosplayers who have won awards in, or whose skill exceeds, the Novice division, but who feel they are not yet ready to compete in the Master division.
      • Professional cosplayers may not enter the Novice or Journeyman division.
    • Master – contestants who have have won 4 or more awards 1 or more international award, or gain income through cosplay commissions, are a professional cosplayer, etc
      • This division is for cosplayers at the top of their craft.
      • Anyone may compete in the Master division.
      • This division will heavily be based on construction quality and meeting the 70% + requirement for craftsmanship.
  • Skit/Performance
    • This category is for individuals or groups who wish to perform a skit on stage.
    • There are a limited number of performance entries, please sign-up early to ensure your spot.
    • If you choose not to enter craftsmanship, this is the section you would do.
    • Contestants may enter both craftsmanship and performance. If you would like to participate in craftsmanship, select “craftsmanship as your category” and Entry Type as “performance”.
      • Performances, WITHOUT craftsmanship are not eligible for major awards besides “Best in Performance” and other minor awards.
    • No pre-recorded audio available at this time. If you have a speaking role, please note that in your application and let the Cosplay Coordinators know.
    • Maximum skit length of 2 minutes. You will be asked to leave the stage if it goes over. Time out your skits ahead of time at home or with your group.
      • We are currently working with programming to allow time for performances to do a rehearsal of their skit during this time and others may rehearse their stage walks (walk-ons).
  • Exhibition
    • For those who do not wish to be judged but join in the fun in showcasing your cosplay on stage! Exhibition submissions are not eligible for awards, besides Best Theme Representation if eligible.
    • Store-bought, custom commissioned from other artists (that are not physically present with you during craftsmanship judging)
